Lisbon, the westernmost capital of Europe, on the banks of the Tagus River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean and gives it a finis terrae atmosphere. Perhaps from this comes the saudade, a word with a name of untranslatability, which describes a form of nostalgia for the future, for a life that could have been and was not.
Lisbon extends over seven hills, with many observation points of the city: the miradouri, or the panoramic points from which to observe the expanse of red roofs, Nostra Senhora do Monte, the highest in the city, Graça, Santa Caterina and Santa Luzia for mention the most famous.
TRAMS OF LISBON
The eletricos, as the iconic yellow trams that climb the Lisbon hills are called, born in the early twentieth century, have become the symbol par excellence of the city. So much, even too much, just think of what happened to tram 28, the most famous of all, because it crosses the most interesting districts of the city: kilometer queues at stops and an impressive crowding on board, so much so that it has become fertile ground for pickpockets. Who knows what panorama you will ever see in those conditions. That said, taking a tram in Lisbon, not necessarily on the 28th, is a pleasant experience, which offers romantic views of the city. These vehicles contribute to the atmosphere of Lisbon.
ASCENSOR BICA E GLÓRIA AND SANTA JUSTA
The same goes for the elevators. The term lift refers to both funiculars and actual lifts. The Ascensor da Glória is the second oldest funicular in the city, founded in 1885. The Ascensor da Bica has been in operation since 1892 amidst colorful houses and views of the Tagus.
The Elevator de Santa Justa is a real elevator in a structure entirely in wrought iron. In less than a minute it leads to the panoramic terrace. Opened in 1902.
